What we hold, why, and for how long.

Short, because there isn't much to say. We collect only what we need to speak to you, and we don't do anything else with it.

What we collect

When you contact us we hold the name you give us, the telephone number or email address you ask us to use, and whatever you choose to tell us about your situation. If you ask us to contact you in a particular way, we record that too.

Why we hold it

To contact you, to prepare for and follow up a conversation with you, and, if you ask us to make an introduction to a professional, to brief that professional with your agreement. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in responding to your enquiry and, where we go on to work with you, the performance of that arrangement.

Who sees it

People at Director Helpline who need it to help you. Nobody else, unless you ask us to make an introduction, in which case we share only what you agree we should. We don't sell, rent or share your details with lenders, debt purchasers, marketing companies or panels of advisers.

How long we keep it

If we don't go on to work with you, we delete your enquiry after twelve months. If we do, we keep the file for six years after the work ends, which is the period we may need it for legal or regulatory reasons, and then delete it.

Your rights

You can ask to see what we hold, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to the email address below. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
